The mosque began at 16 and 18 Market Street, purchased in 1953 and 1955 by Mohamed Javad Namazie, Haji Mohamed Khan and M. M. Abdul Wahab to serve worshippers in the business district.
Road widening and redevelopment in the CBD threatened the original Market Street mosque site, leading to extended negotiations for a suitable replacement.
An exchange agreement secured approximately 6,500 sq. ft. in the present building, creating a much larger base for the masjid’s future.
The modern air-conditioned mosque was completed in 1994 and officially opened on 31 March 1996, initially serving around 350 worshippers.
A six-month addition and alteration project upgraded the prayer hall, toilets, ablution areas and women’s facilities before reopening on 10 April 2015.
